Historical Note

The American Association of Fund-Raising Counsel was founded in 1935 by representatives of eight of the leading fund raising consulting firms in the country in order to advance their common interests. Over the years it has developed standards of ethical conduct for its members, discussed the training of new professionals, monitored state and federal legislation relating to philanthropy and non-profit organizations, and played an important role in the studying and strengthening the philanthropic sector. Since 1956 the AAFRC has also published Giving USA, an annual report on philanthropic activity in the United States.
