The Urban Institute was instrumental in demonstrating the efficacy of housing vouchers in the wake of Richard Nixon's halt of subsidized housing construction.

Researchers at the Urban Institute have continued to explore the ways in which the policies of various administrations have impacted urban life and well-being.
