Scope and Contents

From the Collection: Organization of these documents reflects the organization of the documents in the larger JA International collection.

Board of Directors Records, 1957-1998, contain meeting minutes, board rosters, and board biographical information. Although the minutes are incomplete, they provide insight to the direction of the organization for the periods they cover. The board member information provides gives insight on the people that lead JA Central Indiana. This section also includes information on the boards for the divisions of JA Central Indiana. Executive Office Records, 1956-2001, contain information about the non-board leadership and general operations of JA Central Indiana. This series includes information on JA staff training and conferences, implementation of educational programs, financial records, fundraising and grants, and building operations. The records include files belonging to the President. The materials in this collection have been sub-divided.

Communications and Marketing files include information about how JA Central Indiana markets itself and its programs to students and the public. These files also include clippings from local media about JA Central Indiana activities, students, volunteers, and leaders.

Education Records files contain information about the local implementation of JA educational programs, including volunteer training. These records do not contain non-localized program materials, which are covered in the Junior Achievement Inc. records.

Finance files include audits, budgets, salaries, grants applications, and long-range planning and committees related to financing.

Fundraising files include information on business donors, fundraising events, and materials used to market JA to donors.

Headquarters files include information about building design and layouts, blueprints, and the purchases and sales of the various buildings JA Central Indiana has occupied through its history.

Presidents Files contain correspondence, reference material, and notes documenting the work of the first president of JA Central Indiana, David Hicks, arranged chronologically, and then by subject. Hicks’s correspondence file contains many letters from local area business leaders about their support of JA.

Publications, 1929-1999, include a variety of information published by and about Junior Achievement of Central Indiana. These publications include newsletters, brochures, presentations, and annual reports.

Photographs and Slides, 1920s-1990s, include posed and candid photographs of JA Central Indiana students, staff, volunteers, and activities. The slides also contain localized training material used with JA volunteers, including an extensive collection of photographs of JA Company products, as well as presentations used to recruit students into the program.

Audio-Visual Materials, include audio cassettes, reel-to-reel audio tapes, reel video tape, and video cassettes of ceremonies, training, and advertising.
