Biographical / Historical

The World Fundraising Council was formed in 1985 as a part of the National Society of Fundraising Executives (now Association of Fundraising Professionals), with the goal of increasing the effectiveness of fundraising practice worldwide through information and expertise. It filed articles of association in the Netherlands in 1990, though it never applied for 501(c) status in the United States. NSFRE continued to provide administrative support until 1997, when the IUPUI Center on Philanthropy (now the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy) agreed to absorb these administrative tasks. WFC left the IUPUI campus in 1999 and allowed its incorporation to lapse at the same time.
